If you are thinking about buying a franchise, you are probably wondering about the training. After all, one of the reasons to buy a franchise is because you want to start a business, but you don’t know where to learn all you have to learn. After all, it each industry is different, and to master any one industry could take you 10 to 20 years. I know this, it’s taken me quite a while to master the industries that I was in, and I imagine it’s the same thing with you.
Luckily, franchising companies have proven business models that work, and all you have to do is “plug yourself in and play,” as if you were a computer peripheral. This is why, franchisors have comprehensive and intensive training programs. But very rarely do these training programs last any more than three weeks. And most of them are around two weeks of training at corporate headquarters and then the support staff comes out and helps you set up your own store.
Why is it this way you ask? It’s simple because training is very expensive, and even if the franchisee is paying for the training it raises the cost of the franchise. If the cost of the franchise is too much, fewer people can afford to buy it. Also if training is more than two or three weeks, not only does it cost a lot, but many of the franchise buyers cannot be away from their family that long, everyone has personal commitments and Obligations.
Not to mention the fact that you could end up with a whopping hotel bill by the time you get home, and you’d really have no vacation to show for it, just a lot of hard work and a headache from studying so much. This is why franchise training is very intensive and very short. Most franchise industry consultants will tell you that if the franchise training needs to be longer than two weeks, then that particular business model is not franchise-able. I tend to agree with them. Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this.
